| I have been using the Dalle de Verre technique since I first learned it during my apprentice years. The technique attracts me because of the materials and freedom it allows in the creative process. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The depth of the colors achieved in the thicker glass, irregular shapes resulting from breaking the glass, and the sparkle of the facets when they are fully illuminated, are the visual reasons I like working with the thicker Dalle glass. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The techniques also allow more freedom in the creative process than the traditional leaded stained glass. Traditionally the creative processing leaded stained glass occurs in the design and colored sketch phase, followed by assembly according to the set design. The Dalle de Verre technique allows me to create on the light table in an immediate fashion, making changes to any part of the piece up until the last minute before the epoxy is poured into the gaps between the glasses. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The majority of my works in this technique have been autonomous hanging pieces, although I have created several large architectural windows, the biggest of these windows four feet wide and twenty-six feet tall. The effect of the full sun behind this window is breathtaking and it is what I strive for. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

The pieces in the show are an extension of the training and previous work I have done. Most pieces made in the Dalle de Verre are done exclusively for an architectural opening and therefore set into a fixed framework with boundaries. This exhibit is an intentional change of direction to show that, glass in this technique can exist autonomously and it is visually interesting when glass extends beyond its own framework in the epoxy.
